US customary and metric volume
US volume units are defined from the US gallon of exactly 3.785411784 liters: a gallon is 4 quarts, 8 pints, 16 cups or 128 fluid ounces, and a tablespoon is half a fluid ounce.
The UK imperial gallon is larger, at exactly 4.54609 liters. Nutrition labels in the US use a rounded “cup” of 240 mL; this converter uses the exact customary cup.

Frequently asked questions
Is a cup of flour the same as a cup of water by weight?
No. Cups measure volume. A cup of water weighs about 236 g, while a cup of flour weighs roughly 120–130 g depending on how it's packed. For baking accuracy, weigh ingredients.
How many mL in a fluid ounce?
A US fluid ounce is 29.57 mL. A UK fluid ounce is slightly smaller, at 28.41 mL.
What's the difference between a US and UK gallon?
A UK (imperial) gallon is about 20% bigger: 4.546 liters versus 3.785 liters for a US gallon.
