How to use it
- Choose one or more images, or drag them onto the drop area.
- Pick an output format and move the quality slider. 75–80% usually looks identical to the original.
- Compare the new size with the original and download the files you want.
Examples
Phone photo for email
A 4 MB phone photo saved as JPEG at 75% quality typically shrinks to well under 1 MB with no visible difference at normal viewing size.
Website images
Converting screenshots and photos to WebP often cuts file size by 25–35% compared with JPEG at similar visual quality, which helps pages load faster.
How compression works here
Your image is decoded and re-encoded by your browser's built-in image encoder at the quality you choose. Lower quality discards fine detail the eye is least sensitive to, which is why modest settings save a lot of space without visible loss.
Re-encoding also strips most metadata such as camera details and GPS location, which is a privacy bonus when sharing photos.
Choosing a format
JPEG is universally supported and good for photos. WebP is smaller at the same quality and works in all modern browsers. PNG output is lossless, so the quality slider doesn't apply; for smaller PNGs, reduce the dimensions with the image resizer instead.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything happens on your device using your browser. Your images are never sent to a server, which also makes it fast.
Why did my file get bigger?
If the original was already heavily compressed, re-encoding at a high quality can produce a larger file. Lower the quality or keep the original — the tool shows both sizes so you can decide.
What happens to transparency?
JPEG doesn't support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. Choose WebP or PNG to keep transparency.
